After having influenced the music of the Americas (blues, jazz, tango ...)
and islands of the Caribbean (biguine, his cuban ...), African music occupies
for more than 50 years a preponderant place in the landscape of current
music. With a variety of styles and a repertoire that is constantly renewed,
it is the result of a fusion and a self-hybridization between traditional
music and import music ... themselves inspired by Africa. The instrumental
technique, too, has been enriched by contact with this mix where tradition
and modernity coexist harmoniously, and the guitar, whether electrical or
acoustic, obviously plays a central role, even essential. Thus, this book
will take you through the chapters to different musical destinations in
sub-Saharan Africa and the west coast, while at the same time discovering the
richness of the main popular rhythms that have emerged from the end of the
colonial period to our days. In the course of multiple examples, you will
thus approach the maringa (or palm wine music), the highlife, the afro-beat,
but also the Congolese musics (rumba, soukouss, ndombolo ...), Cameroonian
(ambassbey, makossa, assiko, otoulbaka , bikutsi ...), Mandinka, Malian,
South African (marabi, mbaqanga ...) and many other tracks.
The CD-MP3 that accompanies this book allows to hear all the musical examples
it contains, but also allows to play here or there on playbacks composed of
several parts of guitar.
